Do you wish to develop your MDT skills in a supportive environment, enjoy working collaboratively with others and supporting staff members from other professional backgrounds? This 1.0 wte 8a post provides embedded psychological care within the Macleod Diabetes and Endocrinology Service (MDEC), Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. You will work with both diabetes, endocrinology and medical obesity patients. There will be potential to work with MDTs, provide training, support and supervision to staff as well as maintaining a clinical caseload. Both elements of the post will have a service development role to continue developing psychological care pathways with the local IAPT long term conditions team. Attendance at EMOS MDT meetings every other week on a Wednesday is essential as is diabetes MDT on a Thursday. The service has a good working relationship with the local Liaison Psychiatry and IAPT services. Opportunities also exist with local clinical training courses for research and clinical placements within the service. You will experience the benefits of being part of an innovative, fast paced physical health MDT whilst also being supported by the Clinical Health and Neuropsychology Service within DPT. The team at MDEC have embraced psychology over the past few years and hugely value and appreciate the different perspectives and thinking psychologists bring into the service. The team psychologist has access to protected administrative desk space alongside a separate allocated therapy room in the building. The role encompasses both clinical care (direct patient contact) alongside systemic approaches including a recent focus on psychological informed care and environments. There is flexibility around the types of therapeutic approaches offered in the service and further training that could support this. At the moment a range is offered including 3rd wave CBT, trauma focused approaches and longer term attachment informed interventions.

About you

This role is likely to suit a clinician who enjoys a variety of tasks and role as part of the working week. The role can be fast paced at times and involves a high degree of communication and interaction with the other members of the MDT. The MDEC team are enthusiastic and compassionate, and would enjoy working with a clinical psychologist who values close working relationships and embraces the development of psychological safety within the MDT. This role is also likely to suit a person who enjoys sharing psychological thinking in an informal and understandable format. There are also opportunities to develop leadership skills alongside systemic team based approaches.

This role would ideally suit someone with specific interests in clinical health psychology or/and systemic working or/and leadership.

We also have collaborative links with the IAPT service that has a long term conditions team. We also have excellent links with the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology training programmes at the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth, where opportunities exist for service related research and the provision of clinical placements.

The location

The post is based at the Macleod Diabetes and Endocrinology Service based in the Royal Devon and Exeter Site (Wonford). There is also scope for hybrid working (e.g. part home based) dependent on meeting service need.
