Our vision at Ashford & St Peter’s is to provide an outstanding experience and outcomes for patients and staff.

There has never been a better time to join us in the NHS at Ashford & St Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We provide acute and planned inpatient and outpatient care for our local community with a strong commitment to staff health and wellbeing. We are committed to providing continuous professional development, staff benefits and flexibility to shape our workforce around our patient care.

Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs), Band 5

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals is the largest provider of acute services in Surrey, with approximately 3,800 staff over three sites. The Operating Departments are located on our two main sites - St Peter’s Hospital (in Chertsey) and Ashford Hospital (in Ashford, near Staines), with a total of 18 operating theatres including vascular, trauma and orthopaedics, urology, ophthalmology, bariatric, maternity and more.

We also provide a General emergency and obstetric emergency service. As part of the service you will be required to support emergencies and provide on-call cover.

The theatre’s team are now recruiting enthusiastic and highly motivated ODPs to work within our operating department across site at both St Peter’s and Ashford Hospital. You will be responsible for high standards of clinical practice, working within national and local guidelines.

We are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills, a desire to learn and have a passion to develop and improve our services. Previous theatre experience is welcome, along with experience from other specialities and we have an excellent education team to support those just starting on their ODP career.

We aim to guide all newly qualified ODPs and ensure they have a structured preceptorship programme and supported period of transition.

We support staff to continue their professional development and are able to support our ODPs to rotate in the different areas of Operating Department Practice from Anaesthetics, Recovery and Scrub enhancing the multi-disciplinary team as a whole, improving our patient experience as well as supporting individuals to develop further skills.

We provide in house training for our fantastic staff and all team members are given the opportunity to attend conferences and training off site with links with University of Surrey, Kingston and Brighton Universities which offer courses such as leadership, supported learning in Practice (mentorship), recovery courses, Surgical First Assistants and many more.

Our brilliant team of friendly professionals create a fun and varied place to work. We are a train ride from London and as an employee you will benefit from 5% London weighting as well as many other staff benefits at local amenities.

If you would like to know more or to arrange an informal visit, please contact Joi Kaunde-Smith, Clinical Practice Educator on 0193272(2478) or 0178488(4623)
