We are looking to recruit motivated, caring and compassionate individuals for the role of Apprentice Phlebotomist. This is an entry level role designed to enable individuals to enter an exciting new career in Healthcare..

This full-time (37.5 hours per week) apprenticeship is undertaken within an eighteen month fixed-term contract, and provides an ideal opportunity to begin your career in healthcare science at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you will receive a Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science. This will then allow you to apply for permanent AfC Band 2 roles within Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. This training role will allow you to become a part of the scientific community or the care giving community at the Trust working with patients and other service users.

Successful applicants will work as team members across all areas of the Phlebotomy Service.  There is an expectation within your training that you will participate in the rota to work weekends and bank holidays in line with Phlebotomy service provision.

The role will commence in September 2022 and you could spend your 12/18 months’ placement at any one of our Trust sites.  Candidates will be required to attend study sessions remotely and in person at Sheffield College.

Successful candidates following the virtual assessment day will be asked to complete an online assessment in Literacy & Numeracy, that Sheffield College will arrange.

As part of the assessment you will be asked to take part in a dexterity test to ensure that you will be able to work with the more technical aspects of this role and have a short interview. Further information regarding the timetable for the day will be issued nearer the time if you are invited to attend.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age on the assessment day (you will be asked to provide evidence of this at the time of interview.

You may be required to undertake a DBS. The Trust will administer the check on your behalf & will recover the cost (Enhanced £48 or Standard £30) from your salary over a 3 month period (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service & pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment. DBS checks for volunteers are free.
