We are looking for an experienced clinical or counselling psychologist who can specialise in the assessment and treatment of people with acute mental health problems. We can provide training for you in Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality and DBT as both are interventions we deliver and prioritise.

We can be flexible about hours worked though you will be asked to participate in team meetings at certain times in the week. Some remote working may be possible.

The post involves leading the psychological therapy provision plus support, training and consultation to colleagues within acute care (the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team and two acute wards). You will be joining a supportive therapies team in acute care, consisting of OTs, activity workers and a physiotherapist and two band 7 psychological therapists in the acute service whom you will work alongside and manage.

You will also contribute one day per week to the broader adult therapy service for patients with severe or complex mental health problems, joining a team of experienced therapists who provide CBT, DBT, EMDR, ACT and CAT. You will receive therapy-specific supervision for the therapies you practise with the wider therapy team.

As a Princpal Clinical Psychologist with Solent, there are opportunities to lead one of 6 psychological therapy pathways that are delivered across the service including the Trauma pathway.

The service is also training Clinical Associate Psychologists and we plan to recruit more apprentice CAPs specifically to work in acute care.

We have close links to the University of Southampton’s clinical psychology training course, and there are regular opportunities to have trainee clinical psychologists on placement.
