Inclusion Thurrock are looking for an experienced therapist with a particular interest in secondary traumatic stress, vicarious trauma and their impact on mental health for a new and exciting project with Essex Police.

The Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) are a team of specialist officers covering the whole of the county dedicated to the investigation of offences involving indecent images of children and paedophilia material held on a computer. In addition, POLIT have recently taken on all investigations involving OCAG groups (Online Child Activist Groups) also know as “paedophile hunters” . The team develop and implement an investigation strategy from the initial receipt of the intelligence through to conviction, implementing safeguarding procedures where necessary for the protection of children and young people.

The nature of the role in POLIT exposes officers and support staff to difficult and emotive material, often having an impact on mental health and wellbeing. This joint project aims to provide evidence-based therapeutic support, upskilling and resilience-building through psychoeducation, debriefing and a clinical-style supervision model so that officers and support staff can improve their mental wellbeing and continue to do their important, difficult work.

This role will be embedded within POLIT and involves both individual and group support, in addition to modelling best practice of an open, reflective culture of support. The post holder will recieve regular clinical and management supervision to support them in managing their own exposure to difficult material. Supervision will be provided by an appropriately qualified, senior staff member.

It is imperetive that the post holder has excellent self-management skills, is open and reflective, with high levels of emotional and psychological resilience with strategies in place to support themselves.

Whilst the role is embedded within POLIT, it sits with Inclusion Thurrock's Psychological Therapies Service - a newly commissioned service that provides psychological therapy for people experiencing more serious or complex mental health difficulties. The post-holder would have the support of this team, and will report directly to the Inclusion Thurrock Clinical Lead.
