Trust Doctor in Emergency Medicine CT1 Equivalent Level

We have a number of vacancies for junior doctors (CT1 equivalent or above) in Emergency Medicine at the Royal Devon University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, based in Barnstaple.  These are stand-alone posts and start on the 3th August 2022 for 6 or 12 months.

Established in April 2022, the Royal Devon brings together the expertise of Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, embracing change and innovation to develop new medical models, new ways of working, ground-breaking research and huge levels of investment into new infrastructure, equipment and facilities. There has never been a better time to join us.

The successful applicants will join an enthusiastic team that supports and delivers a modern, comprehensive emergency service.  This is a small, friendly department with big ideas and a commitment to improving our service by embracing change and innovation. We pride ourselves on support for all our staff and our junior doctors enjoy direct shop floor supervision and educational and academic support. The department is rated highly on our junior doctor satisfaction survey and we receive excellent feedback from doctors in training and trust grade doctors alike. The junior tier comprises fourteen doctors on a full shift rota.

Trust doctors work alongside trainees in Foundation, ACCS & GPVTS programs and receive the same training opportunities as these doctors. This includes allocation of a clinical supervisor along with study leave with a study budget. This is a great opportunity to gain broad clinical experience during a bridging year between foundation and specialty training in a beautiful part of the country.

The hospital is a designated Trauma Unit and Acute Stroke Unit and the department is responsible for the reception, resuscitation and hyperacute treatment of all major trauma and stroke patients. The hospital has a helipad within the grounds for both reception of patients and to facilitate transfer to tertiary referral centers.

The Emergency Department is currently involved in and actively recruiting to national research projects. The department has recently undergone a significant refurbishment to co-locate a primary care facility, allowing for streaming of appropriate patients directly to primary care. The ED has a large four bay (including one dedicated paediatric bay) resuscitation room.  There is a separate children’s waiting area and a dedicated paediatric cubicle.

Outside of work, with miles of golden beaches, National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Devon offers an excellent quality of life and is consistently voted as one of the best places to live in England. Please search #loveNDHT on YouTube for more details.

All disabled applicants meeting the essential criteria of a post will be offered an interview. Should you, as a result of a disability, require reasonable adjustments to be made as part of the recruitment process (e.g, venue access, information format, interpreter, etc) please do not hesitate to make a member of the recruitment team aware.

For an informal discussion or to visit the hospital, prospective candidates are welcome to contact Dr Marcin Sosnowsiki on the following e-mail address m.sosnowski@nhs.net

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.

Interview date to be confirmed.

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
