Specialty Doctor in Urology

Applications are invited for a Specialty Grade Doctor in Urology at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust based at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH).  The successful candidate will join the existing team of five consultant colleagues and one specialty doctor at NDDH.

The two sites, North Devon District Hospital & Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital work closely to deliver urology and oncology care in a clinical network.  The role includes emergency urology and a variety of elective clinical commitments including theatres, outpatient clinics and cystoscope clinics.  The post does not have any out of hours commitments.

The department has a team of Specialty Grade Doctors and Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Located in the South West of England, North Devon is recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty.  It extends from the edge of Exmoor in the east to Lundy Island in the west and the Taw Valley in the south providing contrasts of moor land, downs, valleys, rugged cliffs and golden sandy beaches, thus providing a range of interests and activities.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with licence to practice and demonstrate relevant clinical experience to undertake independent endoscopy lists.

For an informal discussion, prospective candidates are welcome to contact Mr Soumya Misra, (Lead Clinician Urology), on 01271 314125 or Keeley Cooper, Service Manager on 01271 355771.  Informal visits are encouraged.

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
