Biomedical Laboratory Assistant

 

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is an integral part of the NHS. Operating a network of centres across England and North Wales, we collect around 2 million units of blood and tissues a year, converting them into safe and effective blood components, blood and tissue products for use in the treatments of patients.

The International Blood Group Reference Laboratory at NHSBT, Filton provides diagnostic and reference services both within the NHS and internationally. The Molecular Diagnostics department requires a Biomedical Laboratory Assistantto support the department carrying out clerical duties and data input in sample reception. You will also be required to perform basic reagent preparation, stock control and contribute to keeping the office and laboratory clean and tidy. You’ll also be on hand to deal with queries from hospitals, other departments, medical staff or visitors and to assist in the training and development of other support staff.

We’re looking for level 3 qualifications or equivalent experience in a hospital laboratory, healthcare or customer service environment. You’ll also, ideally, have a working knowledge of basic IT packages and some experience of working unsupervised in a laboratory environment. A good team player, you’ll be capable of motivating both yourself and others as you tackle a wide variety of tasks.

 

We are recruiting full-time (37.5 hours per week) and part-time staff to cover Monday – Saturday between 07:00 – 18:00 (exact working hours to be discussed with the successful candidates).
