Solent NHS Trust is one of the NHSE pathfinder site for Veteran High Intensity Service (HIS) for the south east region. HIS will cover Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Kent, Sussex and Surrey.

As part of the fund, we have been rolling out the clinical model developed locally in Portsmouth and replicate it elsewhere as appropriate. A key feature of the model is the development of an inter-connected network of services working collaboratively to support veteran communities across primary, secondary and tertiary settings, bringing together statuary and non-statutory organisations.

An exciting role has arisen for a suitably qualified mental health practitioner or psychologist/CBT therapist to support the implementation of the model across Hampshire & Isle of Wight area.

The High Intensity Service is part of the new provider collaborative model of care where Solent NHS Trust will be the lead provider overseeing a host of Local NHS Trusts, veteran charity organisations and other key providers of care to veteran communities. An essential component of the HIS will be the integrated HIS team that will be created as part of a Military Mental Health Alliance in each county to help oversee the development of the clinical model.

The successful candidate will help support the clinical team to lead on assessing, case managing and onwards referring veterans in HIOW. There are also great opportunities to help take lead in developing and delivering psychologically informed brief intervention to help cover local gaps and support veteran with complex difficulties. The intervention will most prominently fall under the stabilisation phase of recovery. This is an ideal opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate with strong leadership & clinical qualities who has an interest and experience of working with veterans and a keen interest in taking on an exciting clinical development role.

The ambition in Portsmouth is to develop a centre of excellence for trauma treatments and veteran mental health more generally and as such the role will provide excellent future opportunities for more senior and strategic leadership posts and career progressions. It is expected that the successful candidate will have a good understanding of veteran mental Health and evidence based psychological treatments for veterans.
