Trust Doctor at ST1 Equivalent level in General Medicine

We are seeking an enthusiastic doctor at ST1 equivalent level to support our General Medicine Team at our friendly and supportive District General Hospital.

The Post holder would work Monday to Friday 9-5 within our General Medicine team. The post is available starting as soon as possible on a 12 month fixed term contract.

Both the Trust and the Departments have a commitment to personal and professional development for each trainee/ trust doctor. We encourage and enable all doctors (whether locum or substantive) to gain required competencies and offer advice on preparation of a portfolio, which can be used as evidence to support applications to further Specialty Training. In particular, we have an excellent simulation suite and have recently appointed a Clinical Fellow to further develop the educational programme.

For applicants wishing to take up the post, appropriate clinical supervision, training and support will be provided and the department is familiar with the full range of trainees and portfolios.

Our Medical Education Department is readily available to offer support.

Applicants for this programme must hold a medical degree from an institution recognised by the GMC. They must have full GMC registration and a licence to practise. Applicants must be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate in English in a clinical environment and have NHS Experience.

Informal discussions are welcomed by calling Sian Beasant (Senior Administration Manger for General Medicine) on 01271 311688 if you have any questions or via email sian.beasant@nhs.net

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E) and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust (NDHT) are planning to formally join together in April 2022; subject to the necessary approvals from our Board, Governors and regulatory authorities. Over the last few years we have made good progress by working more closely together to tackle our shared challenges and both organisations believe that combining strengths into a single organisation will put us in a stronger position to offer high quality, resilient services to the people of Devon now and in the future.   Both organisations employ staff on Agenda for Change terms and conditions (pay, annual leave etc) and there is no impact on core terms of employment as a result of the merge.  This integration will not affect the role that we are recruiting for.  Further information about our integration plans are available at Trust integration website

Previous applicants need not apply.

Interview date is to be confirmed.

This advert will close early if there is a high volume of applicants for the post.

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
