Learning Environment Lead Midwife, Maternity - Band 7

Ashford & St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a passionate and forward thinking midwife for this leadership role. As the Learning Environment Lead Midwife (Band 7), you will be responsible for providing support for students, practice assessors and supervisors for pre-registration learning. You will be responsible for development and implementation of learning environment standards, linking between the Trust and Higher Education providers to enhance and maintain high quality placement experiences for all learners.

You will receive valuable insight into the strategic aspects of the maternity service and gain experience working with quality and improvement teams.

You will be part of a team of 4 clinical midwifery educators and the benefit of a CPE administrator.

 

Job Summary

The post holder will support the capacity and capability of the practice learning environment through:

  • Providing specialist support and advice for all issues regarding pre-registration practice learning.
  • Facilitating the provision of high quality practice learning environments for all midwifery and midwifery apprenticeship students within the Trust.
  • Expand the capacity and portfolio of placements using a hub and spoke model.
  • Providing support for practice supervisors (PS) and practice assessors (PA) in practice to develop and enhance a high quality practice learning experience for students within the Trust.
  • Leading on quality assurance activities relevant to pre-registration placements.
  • Acting as a link between Trust, STP and Higher Education Institutes to ensure that placements meet the required quality assurance standards.
  • To develop local policy and inform strategy regarding quality practice learning.

 

Key working relationships

Internally the post holder will develop effective working relationships with:

  • Ward / Department Managers, Matrons / Clinical Nurse Leaders, Divisional Chief Nurses
  • Registered Practitioners, Practice Supervisors, Practice Assessors
  • Divisional and corporate Clinical Practice Educators & Facilitators
  • Education Team members

Externally this includes

  • Academic Assessors
  • Higher Education Institution (HEIs), their link tutors and placement allocation teams

 

Key Result Areas:

  • To ensure practice learning environment are of high quality within the local service area and meet the quality assurance standards.
  • To maximise the capacity of practice placements
  • To provide strong, skilled leadership and support to members of the workforce involved in supporting and assessing students with clinical practice.
  • To facilitate an increase in the number mentors / practice supervisors / assessors in the Trust and that they meet the requirements of the NMC standards.
  • Maintain a database of current mentors / practice supervisors/ assessors and other relevant data.
