Locum Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics - with a special interest in Spinal Surgery - FTC for 12 months

Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust would like to invite applications for a Locum Spinal & Trauma Consultant

This post  will commence May 2022 for a period of 12 months.  We are looking for minimum two years Fellowship Trained applicants to support our spinal surgeons as well as operate independently expanding our services.

Successful candidates will be running clinic / theatres list independently . To support general Trauma service on 1:11 basis . To give advice in Trauma meeting on acute spinal admissions as well as manage the cases in house when possible. To participate in monthly MDT meetings and support our ACP’s and Pain colleagues. Be involved in training of Junior doctor team and chairing Journey clubs.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Work with existing consultants and the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high quality well-led service for patients of Ashford & St Peter’s, including the diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management of patients, in accordance with Trust policies and practices.

Deliver Direct Clinical Care to patients, through all parts of the Department assisting clinical decision-making and sharing equally in the workload.

The Consultant team will provide comprehensive senior clinical cover to the Department.

Assessment of patients

Provide consultant cover in ward rounds, multi-disciplinary team meetings, clinics, theatre time,

Consultant cover time required, Consultants will be expected to review all potential admissions and develop rapid assessment triage strategies to ensure early investigations and disposition of patients is achieved.

Any changes will be by negotiation and will be reflected in the job plans of the team.

Have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, ensuring safe handover as appropriate.

Engage fully with the care of patients outside the department and provide a prompt opinion on request from consultant colleagues in other specialties
