There is a new, exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team Children’s Long Covid Service, which includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists and Paediatricians Colleagues working across Solent and University Hospital Southampton Trusts.

Throughout the Covid 19 pandemic it has become increasing evident that a small number of children and young people have contracted Covid-19 and are suffering with Long Covid. The main symptoms being fatigue, brain fog, pain and breathing issues.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Children’s Long Covid Pathway has been set up for offer physical, functional, cognitive and psychological assessments with the aim of improving health outcomes and quality of life for those individuals who continue to experience persistent symptoms 12 weeks from their initial illness. This service is for children / young people aged 18 years or younger. Funding has been extended for a further 12 months . This can be as additional hours or as part of a secondment role (we have funding to backfill your hours).

Following MDT Triage, initial assessment and a course of interventions will be provided, to support long term self-management with support from local services where indicated. It is exciting to be part of a new pathway and at the forefront of new research and development. The service is offered mainly through virtual consultations with occasional face to face appointments indicated and occasionally may involve travel within the locality. We are looking for a PWP who is able to provide low-intensity CBT interventions and implement positive change to the children / young people experiencing low mood and anxiety. This will include interventions to address fatigue, chronic pain, anxiety and depression and generalist advice for sleep disorders and health lifestyle choices. Post holder will have good communication and motivational skills and can transfer their current skills and knowledge, supporting children / young people to improve their physical and functional performance, independence as well as health and wellbeing.
