Do you want to help save lives as a Business Analyst?

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) saves and improves lives in a variety of ways across blood, organs, tissues, and “bleeding edge” biosciences, all supported by a complex IT estate. We’re looking for 2 experienced Business Analysts to join the growing team and work on our most important strategic projects to modernise our processes and solutions via the Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Product Centre.

The job will involve becoming a core part of a multi-disciplinary team working on several simultaneous projects each with their own deliverables and timeframes. Day-to-day, you’ll liaise with colleagues to manage your workload to meet these timeframes and renegotiate them where necessary before referring to your manager for support and guidance whenever needed.

You’ll produce and maintain the following documents as appropriate:

  • User Stories and backlog management for Agile delivery projects
  • Business Requirements Specifications (including as-is/to-be/gap analysis);
  • System Requirements Specifications;
  • Requirements Traceability Matrices;
  • Project Glossaries

And contribute to these:

  • Product Centre backlog refinement and prioritisation
  • Business Cases
  • Business Change Plans
  • Business Solution Assessments
  • System Solution Assessments
  • Other PRINCE2 project documents as required
  • Stakeholder Management Plans

At this stage in your career, you’ll have highly developed information gathering skills, including interviewing, workshop facilitation, mediation between conflicting viewpoints, surveys, document analysis, process mapping, and shadowing. You’ll be able to use a variety of analysis,modelling and prototyping methods to understand and reconcile complex and conflicting elements into a coherent whole for presentation and building consensus agreement amongst the subject matter experts.

Past experience will be useful in challenging existing viewpoints and taking advantage of any opportunities to improve the strategic position rather than replacing existing solutions like-for-like on new technology. It may include running small-scale pilots and experiments with business experts, in order to determine the best overall solution to a given problem.

With experience, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of NHSBT systems and will be expected to influence the policies and practices within the Design team, and become the team specialist in specific NHSBT areas or business analysis tools and techniques. Over time as a member of the Design team, there may also be opportunities to provide business analysis to other initiatives and directorates.

This is a national vacancy and the location is to be agreed with the successful applicant. However, there will be a requirement to travel occasionally for this role, that potentially includes overnight stays, you therefore must be able to drive or use public transport. Extensive VDU use and good keyboard skills are required most days.

If you would like to discuss this vacancy in more detail please contact David Broggio – Principal Business Analyst (Interim) at: david.broggio@nhsbt.nhs.uk.

This vacancy will close at 23:59 on Wednesday 25th May 2022.

Interview date(s) are to be confirmed.
