An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Safeguarding Team for a part time Specialist Practitioner for Safeguarding Children. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse, therapist, or midwife to develop their safeguarding skills and knowledge, within the safeguarding arena. The post holder will use their excellent communication skills to provide specialist knowledge, advice and clinical expertise in safeguarding, to all staff at Solent NHS Trust and within multi agency forums.

We are looking for a committed, professional individual who can demonstrate passion and drive for safeguarding. You will be working in a dynamic safeguarding team; working closely with Solent staff, our multi-agency safeguarding partners, the four local Safeguarding Children Partnerships and adult safeguarding colleagues to ensure that the needs of children and young people are paramount.

You will be contributing to both Southampton and Portsmouth multi agency safeguarding hub (MASH) as a health navigator, gathering, analysing health information, supporting decision making and strategy discussions. There will be participation at Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) for domestic abuse cases and other multi-agency forums as they arise. The role will include providing specialist safeguarding knowledge and advice to all Trust employees, including development and delivery of safeguarding training and facilitating supervision groups. Our team is also commissioned to undertake Joint Action Response when a child dies unexpectedly and after training, successful applicants would be expected to coordinate and take a lead for health. There is an expectation for specialist practitioner to support with commissioned local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and internal significant incident reviews including where required undertaking safeguarding audits/ evaluations.

The Specialist Practitioner will work closely with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children to ensure appropriate quality assurance mechanisms in all areas of safeguarding practice are in place and be integral in developing effective communication strategies within the Trust and with other agencies and professionals involved in this area of work.

There will be an expectation to develop knowledge of adult safeguarding practice to support the Trusts ‘Think Family’ approach to safeguarding, own professional development and safeguarding succession planning.

Please note although this posts’ office base is in Southampton there is a requirement, to work regularly across Hampshire and IOW to meet the safeguarding requirements of our organisation.
