Senior Biomedical Scientist - Band 7

Full Time: 37.5hrs Per Week

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and suitably qualified Cytology senior biomedical scientist with expertise in Andrology to join our UKAS accredited Department based at St Peters Hospital in Chertsey.

We are looking for someone motivated, keen to learn and develop new skills, who has a flexible approach to work and is able to work under pressure. The successful candidate will be working in a large HPV primary screening department and supporting satellite Andrology laboratories on several Berkshire & Surrey pathology network sites.

Experience of checking abnormal cervical Cytology cases would be advantageous but not essential for this post as full training can be given.

Working hours will be during core laboratory hours of Monday to Friday 07:00 to 19.00, although there is some flexibility within this.

Main duties include:

  • Primary screening and checking slides produced from HPV +ve gynaecological
  • Supervising the BSPS Andrology team and performing Fertility and Post vasectomy testing on all BSPS sites.
  • Assist in the provision of the semen Cryopreservation service based at Royal Surrey Hospital.
  • Screening and checking HPV +ve gynaecological cytology samples.
  • Performing staff appraisals and developing personal development plans.

The post holder will:
• Primary screen, rapid review and check gynaecological cytology slides.
• Supervise the staff providing Andrology services on several BSPS sites.
• Perform Fertility and post vasectomy testing on several BSPS sites.
• Support the Cryopreservation service based on the Royal Surrey Hospital site.
• Conduct staff appraisals and develop personal development plans.
