A great opportunity exists for an experienced senior nurse who will have a passion to deliver the best care for our patients on our wards. Re-structuring in Adults Southampton creates a vacancy for a Matron supporting our four Inpatient Rehabilitation Units at an exciting time for rehabilitation within Southampton, South-West Hampshire and nationally.

Working alongside the Head of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, Service Manager, and Clinical Leads (Consultant Geriatrician and Rehabilitation Consultant), this will be a key nursing role, as part of the wider service team, responsible for delivering improved health outcomes and wellbeing for our patients and their families.

It is essential that as a Matron in this team you can demonstrate and role model the 6 C’s of care, compassion, competence, communication, courage, and commitment through your leadership of the wards for both our patients and workforce.

Patient safety is paramount therefore robust knowledge of the Nursing Process, healthcare governance, health and safety and infections prevention is essential along with oversight of workforce planning and staff development.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a passion for rehabilitation and excellent outcomes.

We currently operate two level 3 rehabilitation units, a Level 2b Neurological Rehabilitation unit and a Neuropsychiatric unit which provide a range of specialist rehabilitation and as part of Solent’s, ‘Futures project’ we are moving to bring all our community rehabilitation units onto a single site with a new purpose built ‘state of the art’ rehabilitation centre.

This post will be responsible for the development, operational management, and the provision of leadership to Adults Southampton inpatient wards at The Western Hospital and Royal South Hants Hospital- Snowdon ward, The Kite Unit, Lower Brambles and Fanshawe wards

Snowdon - is a 14 bedded unit which specialises in the treatment of adults with physical and cognitive impairment following a recent neurological event or a long- term neurological condition

Kite - The Kite Unit is a 10 bedded purpose-built unit offering a neuropsychiatric service providing rehabilitation to individuals with a brain injury whose impairments are largely in the cognitive, behavioural or mental health spectrum. The Kite Unit is able to support patients who require detention under the Mental Health Act.

Fanshawe Ward is a 19 bedded ward providing both step- up and step-down beds supporting acute admission avoidance.

Lower Brambles ward is a 24 bedded ward providing predominantly step-down beds. Slower stream rehabilitation is also supported

All wards support degree, apprentice nursing, AHP and medical students in practice.

The plan for the future is for all four words to co-locate on WCH site with a new build specialist centre.

The postholder will work in partnership with the Head of In-patient Nursing and AHPs for ADS and will shape the future modelling of clinical leadership across all 4 ADS wards over the next two years as the units become co-located on the WCH site.
