Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) provides a range of community health, mental health and learning disability services for people of all ages. Delivered through over 100 settings from inpatient wards to out in the community, our 6,500 staff serves over 1 million people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Following successful moves for career development, coupled with new exciting expansion to our service provision, the opportunity has arisen within the CAMHS Learning Disability Outreach Team for dynamic and enthusiastic Band 2 healthcare support workers.

The CAMHS Learning Disability Team is heralded as a 'Beacon award winning service', recognised nationally for its forward thinking and innovative approach to care provision. The focus of the team is the assessment and treatment of children and young people with a moderate to profound Intellectual disability, presenting with associated mental health difficulties, challenging behaviours and neuro-developmental conditions.

The successful candidates will be able to further enhance their learning, skills and development in using Positive Behaviour Support, Intensive Interaction, Augmentative communication and through access not only to the multidisciplinary team, but also to a range of specialist nursing staff in the field of ASD, ADHD, sleep and prescribing.

The right candidates will have experience (personal or professional) in working with individuals with intellectual disabilities who display challenging behaviour, and be able to support such needs in a positive manner and in line with the service values.

This role will require working within the Outreach service delivered by the team, and needs individuals who can work flexibly to meet the needs of the patients. The post requires working a shift pattern of early and late shifts, including weekend and bank holiday working. Because of the nature of the service, work will take place both in Rothesay and patient homes, as well as within school, respite and other settings including inpatient facilities as required.

There will be an expectation for the candidates to undertake direct patient work within the service without direct supervision to implement the care and management plans developed by the nurse. They will also assist in the reviewing and updating plans, undertake observations, assist in the development and making of visual resources, and complete physical health monitoring of patients.

The post holders will be part of the existing outreach service undertaking duties in all areas as required.

Please note that at times you will be working under stressful physical and emotional situations and so the ability to undertake safe-holding of young people is essential.

The ability to work a shift pattern of early and late shifts, (long days) including weekends and bank holidays, is essential in order to meet the needs of the patients in a timely manner.

The service covers the whole of Leicester city, Leicestershire and Rutland and so own transport or a suitable alternative is essential. Use of public transport is NOT appropriate for this role.
