We are looking for a new Clinical Data Services Manager to lead the coordination, planning and management of the Data Management portfolio of multi-centre / national / international clinical trials and clinical studies being undertaken by the NHS Blood and Transplant Clinical Trials Unit (CTU).

The UKCRC registered NHSBT CTU delivers a growing, high quality, multi-centre clinical trials programme, recognised both nationally and internationally. Trials are conducted in NHSBT’s therapeutic areas: transfusion medicine, organ donation and transplantation, tissue and stem cell transplantation. The team is passionate, innovative and energetic in their work to save and improve lives through research. The evidence generated directly benefits patients through influencing clinical guidelines and practice in the NHS and beyond.

About the role

You will be responsible for coordinating, planning and managing the work of the data management team, overseeing and developing complex clinical trial databases for a range of studies within NHSBT’s therapeutic areas. You will mentor and develop a small group of staff including junior and senior data managers, ensuring they are supported and guided as required. You will advise clinicians and clinical operations managers on the design of databases for clinical trials, provide specialist training in database management to other members of the team and advise clinicians and other members of the team on strategies to improve data quality and completeness.

About you

If you are passionate about clinical research, keen to lead and embed yourself in a fast-paced and supportive team, then this is the role for you. To excel with us, you will have an honours degree in a relevant subject, and either a MSc/PhD or equivalent experience and specialist knowledge gained through extensive experience of database management in a medical research environment. You will also:

  • Have extensive experience of clinical trials, and clinical trial database management systems (for example MACRO or OpenClinica)
  • Be capable of leading and managing staff, including target setting, performance reviews, training and development
  • Have robust knowledge of GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and related regulatory standards for clinical data management governing clinical trials in the UK
  • Have excellent computing skills with either previous experience or an aptitude for developing computer programming skills such as SAS/ SQL to facilitate report generation
  • Be a self-starter with excellent organisation skills
