This post will offer experience in working in a range of settings within our small and supportive outpatient SLT team.

You will be based at the Western Community Hospital on the outskirts of Southampton City Centre, although you will also have the opportunity to experience providing care in various settings; such as; outpatient clinics, group therapy, video consultations and home visits.

Your role will be to provide assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders for clients with a range of acquired medical conditions (e.g. Parkinson’s Disease, Head Injury, dementia). You will hold your own personal caseload and be able to relate to all relevant people involved in those clients in accordance with local and professional standards and guidelines and following evidence-based practice.

As a member of the team, you will also be supported to complete your dysphagia training throughout your training and development at Solent. You will have weekly clinical supervision; monthly line management support and you will have access to regular peer support from other Speech and Language Therapists, both within the team and within Hampshire and IoW locality.

You will maintain close links with the wider community as we work together with the following services; Southampton City inpatient wards (at both the Royal South Hants Hospital and the Western Community Hospital); the Home Enteral Nutrition team (HEN), Early Supported Discharge Teams (ESD) and Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team (CNRT).

We strive to provide personalised care, ensuring better health outcomes for our clients. We also share close links with the Adult SLT service in Portsmouth and at University Hospital Southampton, which provides an opportunity to share learning initiatives and service developments.

You must hold a professional registration with the HCPC and RCSLT. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to the use of a car.
