Leicestershire Partnership Trust are investing in their Psychology services to ensure that a high-quality provision is available to all who utilise its services in both community and inpatient settings. As such we are looking for committed, skilled, motivated Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologists to join our acute inpatient team.

The roles are offered at Band 8a or Band 7 preceptorships. If applying for this role at Band 7, there can be the option for employment as a preceptorship with possible movement to Band 8a after 24 months (or less depending upon when the required plan is completed) in post

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to be involved in the redesign of an inpatient service, which is driven by a psychology leadership team. The post-holder will have the opportunity to:

  • Utilise research skills to design and conduct evaluations of the service. It is anticipated that these will lead to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Complete training in evidence-based brief interventions
  • Utilise and develop the full extent of clinical skills, working with people admitted to the unit with a broad range of mental health problems
  • Hone skills and foster expertise in specialist areas, through links with inpatient and community pathway services
  • Design and deliver training to ward-based staff and MDT colleagues specifically relevant to their needs.

As a post-holder in the acute inpatient team, you will be based at the Bradgate Mental Health Unit, Glenfield Hospital, which provides acute inpatient care to male and female working-age adults. The unit consists of 7 acute wards and 2 Psychiatric Intensive Care Units. Clients within the acute inpatient mental health service present at times of crisis, often experiencing high levels of emotional distress, and typically have complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

The successful candidate will provide a specialist psychological consultation, assessment and intervention service to acute mental health wards and PICUs. You will offer advice and consultation on patient’s psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the Trust policies, procedures and service priorities.

The post holder will participate fully in multidisciplinary ward clinical teams, often leading them, in providing a service to their patients. You will be capable of conducting projects and working independently. Working within the team, you will support and supervise other members of the MDT and contribute to the development of changes to ways of working and reflective practice. You will play an important role in supervising junior psychologists; the successful candidate will ideally be trained to supervise trainee clinical psychologists or willing to complete this training.

Clinical supervision and opportunities for CPD will be provided.

The psychology department has strong links with local clinical and forensic psychologists, with psychologists working in different levels of security, and with local universities.
