This exciting and unique opportunity has arisen from support by the South West Clinical Research Network to enhance research opportunities for young people accessing mental health services across Cornwall. The post holder would continue to build on the work started in 2021/22 to embed a culture of research within Community Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and related organisations in Cornwall. The post will involve recruiting patients and engaging staff in a range of NIHR portfolio studies across inpatient and community CAMHS settings. As such the post holder will work closely with research leads in CAMHS (Dr Beth Chapman, Dr Seb Rotheray) and be supported by the Cornwall Foundation Trust research team. Expectations of the role would be to further develop links with local schools, the third sector and establish and augment young people networks across the peninsula that support collaborative working in the aim of attracting the acclaimed CAMHS research to Cornwall.

Experience of working with young people with common mental health presentations such as severe affective disorders, first episode psychosis, restrictive eating disorders, complex neurodevelopmental, trauma and personality difficulties is essential. The post holder will need to be comfortable with discussing and engaging with young people about research, familiar with working with the complexities of capacity and consent that are inherent to CAMHS work and a keen advocate of research and evidenced -based practice.

The role will involve working across organisations and working independently therefore the person must be prepared to travel and work flexibly. The post holder will be able to demonstrate excellent communication, engagement and organisational skill ensuring the safe conduct of projects in accordance with relevant guidelines, regulations and policy.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised and flexible professional with an interest in research and service development to make an important contribution to the equity of access to CAMHS research across Cornwall and improve patient care. Applicants are invited from any professional background.

Secondment opportunity would be possible with prior agreement from current Manager.
