An exciting opportunity has arisen within Cornwall Foundation Trust for a specialist physiotherapist to work within the Adult Community Learning Disabilities Service.

The service line was recently rated as ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commission (2017). The Learning Disabilities Service received an outstanding rating for ‘Caring’.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and well-motivated physiotherapist to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing services to adults with Learning Disabilities within Cornwall. Based in Pool, and as part of the West Community Team, the post holder will be expected to cover the physiotherapy caseload predominantly in the west of the county.

The community learning disability team consists of nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychiatrists, healthcare assistants and assistant practitioners. Previous knowledge and experience of specialist interventions such as postural management, hydrotherapy and rebound therapy would be desirable. However in-service and external training are an integral part of the role and could cover these specialist areas. As part of this, there will be an expectation for some flexible working across the county and both teams.

We would welcome applications from experienced HCPC Registered Physiotherapists with experience of working with people who have a learning disability. However, applicants who can demonstrate transferable skills from other relevant clinical specialties eg paediatric, neurological services, wheelchair services will be considered. Knowledge and passion to work with and improve the health outcomes of people with learning disabilities is essential. You will need to have the ability to travel within a large geographical area.

CPD is fully supported and encouraged, statutory and mandatory training is provided, and there are opportunities and dedicated time provided for supervision and development. Supervision and support for the successful applicant will be provided by the Lead Physiotherapist and the West Team Manager.
