Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, treating around 50,000 patients each year. We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with administrative services based in Huntingdon.

Founded as a tuberculosis colony in 1918, Royal Papworth Hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation. Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

In October 2019, we became the first trust to be rated ‘outstanding’ in all five areas assessed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) (safe, caring, effective, responsive, and well-led). We are committed to providing a positive, supportive experience for all of our staff.

Royal Papworth Hospital is proud to employ a diverse workforce who are encouraged to use their individuality to provide exceptional and personalised patient care. We believe that our strength as an organisation relies on our ability to foster an environment which encourages using our differences as a strength.

Senior Clinical Research Nurse B6

Royal Papworth Hospital is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital and an internationally renowned centre offering specialist care for patients with cardio-respiratory conditions. We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus which combines world-class biomedical research, patient care and education on a single site. Our brand new Heart Lung Research Institute (HLRI) next door opens its doors in early 2022 and will draw together the highest concentration of heart and lung researchers from academia, healthcare and industry in Europe.

As a Senior Clinical Research Nurse within the Thoracic Oncology R&D team you will assist in the setting up of both commercial and Papworth sponsored clinical trials, recruiting patients, arranging and conducting assessments and follow up episodes as specified by the protocol. You will ensure that specified milestones are achieved on time, that high quality data is collected and that clinical research is conducted according to the ethically-approved protocol and ICH-GCP standards.

Royal Papworth Hospital is proud to employ a diverse workforce who are encouraged to use their individuality to provide exceptional and personalised patient care. We believe that our strength as an organisation relies on our ability to foster an environment which encourages using our differences as a strength.

We are able to thank our staff for their hard work with the help of Royal Papworth Hospital Charity such as free refreshments, discounts on food and a staff reward and recognition scheme. Health and well-being services are offered in-house and there is genuine commitment to promoting a positive, inclusive and supportive work environment.

Our Trust’s values ‘Compassion, Excellence and Collaboration’ underpin everything we do, please include in your supporting information how you meet these values.

Please note that the interview process will include a short scenario-based assessment. Relevant information will be provided to shortlisted candidates in advance and support will be provided by the panel on the day.

The postholder will be based within the HLRI on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The campus is served by 60 local bus services an hour during weekdays and is on the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway, which provides frequent, reliable public transport along the A14 corridor linking Huntingdon and St Ives to central Cambridge, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Trumpington to the south.
