We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to lead our High Cost Drugs and Homecare team.

We are looking to recruit an experienced hospital pharmacist to lead on our CIP agenda and the planning around high-cost specialist medicines. You will work closely with clinicians and the commissioners to optimise effectiveness and ensure best value from use of High Cost Drugs within the local health economy.  Work will include input into Individual Funding Request submissions, responsibility for the effective use of homecare services across the Trust and management of a small team of staff. You will also work closely with colleagues in the senior management team and within NHSEI to ensure that national commissioning policies and protocols for high-cost treatments that sit outside of NICE recommendations are implemented to agreed criteria. Additionally, the role will accommodate clinical practice providing a ward-based pharmacy service. Our robust medicines management framework with clinical technician support will ensure that you have maximal patient contact with a minimal supply role.

The successful candidate will have well developed communication skills with the ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team, a desire for self-development and excellent organisational skills. You will thrive on the opportunities and challenges provided by a busy and varied supportive work environment where no two days are ever the same. An understanding of commissioning processes, homecare provision and biosimilars would be an advantage. You will also have the opportunity to develop your leadership and educational skills by supervising and mentoring junior rotational pharmacists.

Our Pharmacy department has a strong clinical presence in all areas. We have an establishment of over 100 members and enjoy an excellent reputation within the Trust where we provide patient-centred clinical pharmacy services to some 400 beds and a number of outpatient clinics. We are an innovative and forward-thinking department and have invested in a host of technical improvements over recent years, including robotics and state of the art dispensaries and technical services. The department is friendly, forward thinking and constantly expanding. This is an exciting time to be joining the team as electronic prescribing is currently in the process of being implemented and we have redesigned the delivery of pharmacy services to provide an entirely ward based clinical pharmacy service 7 days a week.

You will hold a post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent). Opportunities to study for a post graduate prescribing qualification will be available as the department looks to further expand clinical services to support patient flow.

Your contracted hours will be worked over 5 days and will include participation in our 7-day, weekend, late night, backup on-call and bank holiday rotas.
