As an Advanced Level 3 Apprentice Dental Nurse, you will be fully supported as you learn, develop and gain the skills required, to become a fully qualified Dental Nurse.

You will have the benefits of working in a successful and well-established Dental Hospital and local Community Dental Clinics, alongside a team of dedicated, experienced and highly motivated dental professionals.

Your training programme will comprise of the City and Guilds Level 3 Extended Diploma in Dental Nursing, which you will be expected to complete within 24 months of your start date, April 2022, achievement of which, will require completion of a portfolio of evidence made up of 11 individual units, successfully passing a single on-line exam, and passing an End Point Assessment.

In order to guide you to success, your training will involve 4 days of practical, clinical “chairside” work, and 1-day classroom based learning. You will have access to a wide range of resources, including, IT and library facilities plus, other NHS benefits, as well as a designated Tutor, Assessor and Mentor.

As an Apprentice Dental Nurse, you will develop the skills (both clinical and inter-personal), knowledge, behaviours and confidence required to carry out your job role safely and efficiently. Your job role will include; decontamination and preparation of the dental setting, setting up for and supporting dental staff with a wide-range of dental treatments and procedures, maintaining a high standard of infection prevention and control, processing x-rays, supporting patients from a range of backgrounds and ages, arranging appointments and, complying with Trust policies and procedures.

To be successful in the role you will need to be motivated, organised, committed to meeting deadlines and targets and, have a knowledge of basic computer skills.

Entry requirements are a minimum of two GCSEs grades 9-4 (A-C), or equivalent, in English and Mathematics, plus a good standard of education

In line with new legislation, all NHS staff and volunteers directly involved in patient facing roles will need to be fully vaccinated with both their first and second Covid vaccines by 1st April 2022. Newcastle Hospitals provides CQC regulated activity and is required to ensure that staff and volunteers comply with these regulations when they come into force. Therefore, staff and volunteers who are appointed to join the Trust working in roles ‘in scope’ of this legislation will be required to evidence their vaccination status as part of the routine NHS Pre Employment checks process.
