An exciting opportunity to work as an upper GI Dietitian at Newcastle Hospitals. This post is for an initial 1 year and an ideal opportunity to gain knowledge and experience within a new specialism. The Northern Oesophago-Gastric Unit is the largest unit in Europe offering a regional diagnostic and treatment service for patients with both cancerous and benign disorders affecting the upper digestive system.

You will gain experience supporting patients from diagnosis throughout their treatment with nutritional care playing a pivotal role in our enhanced recovery after surgery programme (ERAS). You will be working closely with an experienced Band 6 dietitian and 4 specialist nurses as well as the wider multidisciplinary team supporting both inpatients and outpatients. This is an exciting opportunity to practice a wide range of dietetic skills including home enteral feeding, whilst specialising in a complex and interesting disease area. You will also have the opportunity to be involved with and encouraged to participate in audits and other service development initiatives within the dietetic department and OG service.

The Newcastle Nutrition adult dietetic team consists of 40 dietitians working between the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) and Freeman Hospital.

We offer ongoing training and support with the opportunity to experience dietetics in many different specialist areas. The department also provides A, B and C placements for dietetic students. The Trust places significant value on its dietetic services in the provision of first-class patient care, and the dietetic service enjoys a high profile with excellent multidisciplinary involvement.

The post holder will be required to

· Deliver a high quality dietetic service

· Work effectively as part of the MDT

· Take part in student training and supervision

· Contribute to research and audit within specialist areas

You should be enthusiastic and self-motivated and will:

· Have post-registration experience in general dietetics

· Have undertaken specialist training in nutrition support or have experience of working in this area.

· Be able to demonstrate ongoing CPD and have evidence of developing practice.

· Be able to support colleagues and take responsibility for the clinical supervision of junior staff and students.

· Have excellent communication skills

· Be able to maintain good relationships with colleagues and the wider the MDT

Part Time: 25 hours/week
