Donor Carer

Job Reference: 918-BX8547

Employer:
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT)
Department:
Gloucester Donor Centre
Location:
Gloucester
Salary:
£20,330 to £21,777 per annum pro rata

Enjoy a rewarding career like no other.

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) collects, tests, processes, stores and delivers blood, plasma, organs and tissue to NHS Trusts across the UK. From the members of the public who make incredible, life-saving donations to the dedicated members of our team who make it all happen - people are essential to the service we provide. And you could help us change lives.

As a vital member of our team, you’ll welcome and support volunteers giving blood during donor sessions. You’ll enjoy plenty of variety too. You could be testing donors to see if they’re able to give blood that day. Or maintaining records and offering basic clinical advice and aftercare. Basically, we’ll need you to be ready to get involved with anything that needs doing. But whatever you’re doing you’ll need to be comfortable with the sight of blood, as you’ll be taking the donations too.

We’ll give you all the technical training you need to perform venepuncture (using needles to take blood), so you don’t need a medical background. But you will need to be a real people person. Your friendly, flexible approach will make donors feel welcome, at ease and valued – after all, we want them to come back and bring their friends and family!

The working hours for this role is 6 days per fortnight working 56 hours over these days, up to 9 hours a day. The earliest start time would be 07:00(twice weekly) or 10:30 (3x per week) with a finish time of approx 17:30 or 20:45, if on a late shift you would be finishing at 20:45. You can expect to work some long hours, but you won’t be working five days a week or even the same days each week. So we’ll need you to be flexible - but we’ll let you know around two months in advance which days and hours you’ll be working.

In return we offer a range of NHS benefits - including a generous holiday allowance, attractive pension scheme and discounts - and plenty of opportunities for development in a lively, friendly environment.
