Covid-19 Clinical Assessment Service – remote assessment

We currently have an urgent need for immediate deployment to the Covid-19 Clinical Assessment Service, working with South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS).

The advertised salary is dependant on the amount of unsociable hours worked.

Any additional employee entitlement are in addition.

Building on our experience of the successful and innovative work with GPs/ERPs supporting the Covid Clinical Assessment Service in 2019 and 2020 we are looking for GP/ERPs to join NHS South Central and West Commissioning Support (SCW) GP Workforce on a fixed term contract for a minumum of 20 hours and a maximum of 40 hours per week, for a period of up to 12 weeks. By joining SCW we can support your portfolio career with various deployments available in Remote Clinical Assessment to Urgent and Emergency Care Providers or transformation and service improvement work across the wider NHS.

SCW is an NHS organisation that means working for us ensures you are a full part of the NHS family. We will ensure you become a valued member of SCW helping us realise our clear organisational vision, values and benefits to the wider NHS. As a NHS worker contracted on the Bank, we can offer you flexibility and a choice of opportunities, including options on working shifts that fit with your needs and commitments.

As you are aware, the NHS is mobilising contingency plans to support the delivery of healthcare over the coming couple of weeks and months in response to Covid and specifically the Omicron variant.

In March 2019 we worked with SCAS to develop a successful National Covid-19 Clinical Assessment Service (CCAS) which helped sustain and maintain NHS111 through the first two waves of the pandemic. CCAS responded to over half a million patients during Covid wave 1 and 2 and there is no doubt patient lives were saved as a result.

We are looking to recruit further General Practitioners as we will be standing up the CCAS to go Live on Wednesday 5th January 2022 for approximately up to 12 weeks, these timings are very dependent on how the virus impacts the population and the NHS ability to respond. The current thinking, based on all of the analysis completed to date is that the Covid-19 activity will see an influx in demand during January.

As a Covid-19 CAS General Practitioner (GP) / Emergency Registered Practitioner (ERP) you will be working remotely offering telephone advice to patients calling NHS111 and being streamed through to the Covid-19 Clinical Assessment Service (CCAS), you will be expected to manage in a respectful and caring manner, some of the most complex and time sensitive patients who have accessed NHS111 services. As well as responding to Covid calls, it is likely that other clinical and healthcare related presentations will require review and ERPs in particular are supported to review focused clinical cases.

Although there is an immediate need for deployment to CCAS we have now established a GP Workforce Service and there will therefore be an opportunity to retain you on the SCW bank to support the wider NHS following this deployment should you wish to continue with this work.

We sincerely hope that you will consider supporting this latest stage of the pandemic response by offering some time to CCAS to help ensure we are best able to meet the population’s healthcare needs.

This is a remote working role.
