Solent NHS Trust

Chief Executive

Solent NHS Trust specialises in providing high quality, best value community and mental health services. With a workforce of around 6,300 people and a turnover of £238 million, we provide a range of services in communities across the Hampshire and Isle of Wight geography. We are a strongly values driven organisation with a clear focus on delivering our three ‘greats’ to help us achieve our vision, health and care teams working with communities to make a difference, so everyone has easy access to safe and effective care, enabling more people to remain well and independent throughout their lives.

We are proud of our performance as a great place to work – clearly evident in our employee survey performance, great care demonstrated by our Care Quality Commission rating of ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ for caring and great value for money – having balanced our books for the last few years. We were also proud to win the 2021 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Award for Staff Engagement. At a time when many employees in the healthcare sector, especially within the NHS, are facing increasing challenges, our organisation stood out as an employer who genuinely listens, providing a values-based culture and ensuring a great place to work. In being named as the winner, we were recognised for our commitment to employee wellbeing and voice, over the last 12 months and beyond.

We are very much a learning organisation with a culture that embraces feedback and the opportunity to improve. We believe we can be an ‘outstanding’ combined community, mental health and learning disability trust. We are looking for a new Chief Executive who shares our ambition for both our Trust and for the system as a whole. We are looking for someone who is values driven, who will embrace our positive empowering culture. We need someone who will lead our organisation and who has the emotional intelligence and bravery to look outwards and play a big part in developing our system. We are a well-respected Trust and want someone who can grasp the bigger picture and ensure that Hampshire and the Isle of Wight builds a strong system, tackling health inequalities and delivering better care for our communities.

Our new Chief Executive will have a commitment to our five core values of Honesty, Everyone Counts, Accountability, Respectful and Teamwork.

We want our executive board to reflect the diversity of the population we serve, and we welcome all applications, especially from under-represented groups, including people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.

Closing date for applications is Monday 31st January.

For more information about this role, including details of how to apply, please see the attached candidate brief or contact 0207 518 2612.

All patient facing workers in England will be required to ensure they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, from 1 April 2022 . It will be a condition of employment to be fully vaccinated. This requirement will also apply to those in ancillary support roles such as porters or receptionists who may have social contact with patients but are not directly involved in their care.

To be fully vaccinated you must receive both doses of a Covid-19 vaccination. Successful applicants will be required (unless exempt*) to provide evidence of their covid vaccination status (NHS COVID Pass) or evidence that they have commenced their journey to becoming fully vaccinated. If the required evidence cannot be provided then any offer of employment may be withdrawn.

Our shared values support the development of a strong working culture. They breathe life into our organisation – guiding and inspiring all of our actions and decisions. They enable us to be better at what we do and create a great place for our staff to work, whilst ensuring we provide the highest quality of care to our patients.

In creating our values, we spent time listening to our employees and members. Based on what people told us, we created our HEART values to reflect the deep belief that we are caring organisation at the centre of our community: Honesty, Everyone counts, Accountable, Respectful, Teamwork.

We are an accredited Real Living Wage employer.
