An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive, full-time Associate Genetic Technologist post. We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and highly motivated team player with a meticulous approach to laboratory work. Full training will be provided. They will work closely with members of both the research and diagnostic staff, and play a key role in providing high quality sample testing and technical support that is integral to the genomic testing services offered by the department, ensuring an accurate, safe, efficient and timely service to patients.


About the laboratory

The Exeter Genomics Laboratory delivers high quality genetic and genomic testing for both NHS and research patients by combining the rigorous quality approach required in a clinical diagnostic service with the innovation and academic expertise of research scientists. Our clinical diagnostic facility is underpinned by world-class research, state of the art technology, and scientific, bioinformatics and clinical expertise, enabling rapid implementation of exome, genome and targeted next generation sequencing to improve diagnosis and treatment of rare disease.


Located in the Research, Innovation, Learning and Development Centre (RILD), the laboratory is the national provider of the pioneering rapid exome sequencing service for acutely ill babies (R14 service), one of three designated specialist providers for a comprehensive range of endocrine disorders for NHS patients in England, and internationally acclaimed for our research into monogenic diabetes and hyperinsulinism. The laboratory is set in the beautiful cathedral city of Exeter, in the midst of glorious Devon countryside and close to the South West coastline with its stunning beaches, the city boasts excellent links by road, rail and air to the rest of the country, Europe and further afield, whilst being within easy reaches of picturesque Dartmoor and Exmoor scenery.


We work in partnership with the Bristol Genetics Laboratory to deliver genomic testing for patients with rare disease and cancer throughout the South West of England and work collaboratively with leading University of Exeter Medical School researchers in genetics, genomics and epigenetics.
