Sterile Services is an accredited department that provides decontamination services for the hospital as well as other organisations in the area.

We are a team dedicated to the production of quality medical & surgical procedure packs and trays for use in clinical areas. The aim of decontamination services is to support patient care by providing reusable medical devices “fit for purpose”, processed by staff well trained in decontamination practices.

Job overview –

Sterile Services is part of the Estates & Facilities Division. Our main customer is the In Patient Theatres & the Day Surgery Unit; the department decontaminates equipment for surrounding GP surgeries & Dental clinics. The aim of a Sterile Services Technician is to provide a decontamination service in all aspects of the decontamination lifecycle, from receipting & dismantling right through the disinfection & sterilization stages

Key requirements -

  • To work in accordance with Departmental Policy, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management System.

  • To reprocess reusable medical devices, disassemble, clean, disinfect, check, assemble, sterilize, despatch and track in a controlled environment.

  • To contribute to developing the service to ensure that delivery of medical device decontamination is safe, effective and follows best practice.

  • To follow the decontamination departments training programme and undertake training in line with the Institute of Decontamination Sciences educational framework as agreed with the line manager.

  • To have an understanding of the Department’s Quality Policy, Quality Manual and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure that a high standard of work is maintained at all times.

  • Knowledge and experience in the decontamination of reusable medical devices

  • Experience within a quality lead productive environment

  • Ability to work to Standard Operating Procedures

  • Team worker

  • Ability to stay calm/work under pressure

  • Flexible

  • Professional manner at all times

  • Good communication skills, written and spoken

CAR PARKING - This post does not entitle you to apply to park on the Hospital site. The Trust offer parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack.

 

If required to work on a weekend, the restriction does not apply. Parking is allowed on site Saturday and Sunday provided a permit and daily ticket (£1.60) is clearly displayed.
