Senior Midwife: Practice Development

Are you ready to take the next step in your midwifery career and join our dynamic team in this newly created innovative role within the Maternity Services at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne? Do you have the motivation, vision, and foresight to join the team, leading on the continually evolving professional development and evidenced based training of our Maternity workforce and in doing so, contribute to the delivery of a high quality maternity service.

We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, dynamic midwife who has a passion for enhancing the knowledge and skills of the Maternity Services workforce. You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, be self-driven, clinically sound and approachable.

You will be working alongside the Practice Support Midwives, Risk and Governance Midwives, Obstetricians, the Trust education team and the Senior Midwifery management team developing training based on local needs and national drivers. This includes creating learning opportunities within the clinical environments and maintaining communication between teams as part of a commitment for the wider maternity service. You will also be responsible for monitoring our Training Needs Analysis programme.

An important aspect of the role will be to ensure that the Trust continues to meet with key performance indicators and compliance with national standards for training aligned to Better Births, Saving Babies Lives, MSDS and The Maternity Incentive Scheme.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator and, as an ambassador for the organisation, represent the Trust regionally and nationally at training forums. It is essential that you bring a flexible and adaptable approach to meet with the challenge of this role.

The Maternity Unit here in Newcastle is one of the largest in the UK and rated as outstanding by the CQC. The maternity service includes a main Obstetric Unit, Alongside Midwifery Unit; Newcastle Birthing Centre, inpatient, outpatient and community midwifery services. The service has Level 3 UNICEF Baby Friendly status, aligns to the improvement work of the Maternity and Neonatal Safety Collaborative, and has an active Maternity Voices Partnership.
