Cross Speciality and Thoracic Oncology Research Teams

Clinical research at MFT

Our MFT Research and Innovation strives to be at the forefront of R&I in UK healthcare. We are dedicated to driving continuous improvement in the care our patients receive through clinical research. We support over 300 principal investigators undertake research across a diverse range of clinical areas, with more than 800 active studies, involving 15,000 patients, deliver improved diagnostics, treatments and devices for patients in Manchester and beyond.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for two full time Band 6 Senior Clinical Research Nurses to coordinate and deliver clinical research studies at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).

You’ll be joining an award-winning and diverse team of experts at MFT who are making a difference to the future of care in the NHS by asking questions and finding out the answers.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who can contribute to the development of research within the cross-speciality and Thoracic oncology research teams. The Cross-speciality Team facilitates and supports research delivery in different specialities of research with in MFT, with a particular focus on the delivery of vaccine research studies in both COVID 19 and Non COVID 19 vaccine trials.

The Thoracic oncology Team facilitates and supports the delivery of research within thoracic oncology Hub. Our research encompasses diagnostic, treatment and supportive Care Studies across all the stages of lung cancer from precancerous to advanced stage disease. Our strengths lie in research in early diagnosis, thoracic surgery, adjuvant therapy and mesothelioma. We are part of Cancer Research UK’s Lung cancer Centre of Excellence and are involved in number of national studies and Initiatives funded by Charity.

The successful applicant will be expected to work autonomously and flexibly to meet the demands of the study. The core working hours are Monday to Friday, but you would be expected to work some weekends and out of hours as required to meet the needs of the service. The Thoracic oncology post and the cross-speciality posts are predominantly based at the Wythenshawe site .For either post you may be required to work across MFT sites (Oxford Road, Wythenshawe, Trafford General and Crumpsall Campuses) to support the delivery of research studies .

You will take a proactive approach in managing clinical research studies including developing study procedures and practice, gaining consent and approvals and recruiting patients, alongside clinical duties including providing the highest quality patient care and collecting and processing samples.

You will be instrumental in implementing study objectives and will provide dedicated support to ensure that studies are delivered to time and target. You will be the main point of contact for study principal investigators, sponsors and patients and so effective communication and team working skills are essential. You will be involved in ensuring that research undertaken at MFT safeguards the well-being of patients and is undertaken within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines. You will also have opportunities to showcase your work and will at all times be an ambassador of research at MFT, at internal and external events.

Prior clinical research nursing experience is not essential, but advantageous. You will be educated to a degree level or equivalent experience; You will have First Level registration RN, experience of nursing in a clinical setting with people management skills.

You will have a flexible approach to your working pattern. You may be required to work a variety of shifts throughout the 24-hour period, including weekends to perform your role satisfactorily and to meet the needs of the Research delivery across MFT.

Comprehensive training and an induction programme will be provided for successful candidates. We will also ensure that you have tailored, individual personal development plans with support for further training.
