Solent NHS trust is recruiting a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist who will work within the established Mental Health in Schools Team in Portsmouth alongside a small team of 'High Intensity' therapists.

The development of these services are in collaboration with NHS England and the Department for Education, following on from the 2017 Green Paper Transforming children and young people’s mental health provision. This is a roll out of the work to improve access to mental health care for young people set out in the NHS Long Term Plan.

The post holder will deliver high quality therapeutic intervention for young people presenting with low/moderate mental health presentations such as anxiety/low mood/OCD within the MHST guidelines.

The post holder will be delivering evidence-based intervention for children and young people in education settings primarily with access to CAMHS facilities and local family hubs. The role will include supporting and facilitating staff in education settings to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing and working with and within education environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services.

The post holder will work alongside the Mental Health in Schools Team (MHST) as part of a dynamic mental health team in a creative environment where evidence-based interventions, new ideas, ways of working and supporting children and young people are actively encouraged.

Portsmouth MHST are a well established MHST service who cover all the citys schools with consultation and intervention offered to young people presenting with low/moderate mental health difficulties. The service is locality based aligned with the North, Central and South teams in the local authority MATs. There are strong links with the local schools, and devloping links with Early Help and School Nursing service.

Job Responsibilities

  • Delivery of CBT interventions to young people and families
  • Delivery of group interventions, where appropriate.
  • Consultation with schools
  • Support to the wider team in skills development
  • Ongoing CPD
