A great place to start your career in Medicine for the Elderly

“We organise various activities on our wards including pet therapy, tea parties and art and craft sessions. We treat patients as individuals and make sure it’s a happy place for them to be.” Jessica Fernandes, Ward Manager, Lewis Lloyd Ward

If you’re a Band 5 nurse looking to work in Medicine for the Elderly, then this is a great opportunity to gain excellent experience at St Mary’s Hospital. And we do our best to ensure it’s a happy place to be for our nursing staff, as well as our patients.

We have three award-winning Medicine for the Elderly wards: Lewis Lloyd which has 15 female beds, Thistle which has 20 male and female beds, and Witherow which has 12 male beds. These wards were recently refurbished – thanks to support from Imperial Health Charity - to help achieve the highest standard of care for our patients in an environment that provides comfort, safety and support for their stay.

We encourage innovation across all three wards and have a dynamic and inspiring nursing team that works closely with doctors, discharge coordinators, occupational therapists and physiotherapists to ensure our patients receive the highest possible standard of care.

We have a range of experts who visit our wards, including dementia specialists and art therapists - we also have pet therapy and a full programme of music therapy, to ensure that our patients remain active and engaged throughout their stay.

This is a forward thinking and dynamic organisation where there’s a strong focus on continuing professional development and an encouragement to advance personal practice within a supportive team of senior nursing and medical staff.
