RDC ANP Advert Text December 2021

We are recruiting x2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) to support the Rapid Diagnostic Clinic (RDC) at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. RM Partners have provided 12 months’ funding for 1.6 WTE 8a ANP posts to support the development of a RDC vague symptoms clinic at ICHT. We are recruiting to the below positions;

  • Full time ANP (1.0 WTE) – includes direct line management responsibilities and professional oversight
  • Part time ANP (0.6 WTE)

The successful candidates will work directly with the RDC project manager and GP Lead, also funded through the RMP grant, to scope, establish and run the pilot clinics.

This is a unique opportunity to shape and implement a different model of care for patients with non-specific/ concerning symptoms to exclude/ make a cancer diagnosis in the first instance and then refer on to other specialties as required.

RDCs are part of the NHS Long Term Plan to increase the number of cancers diagnosed at stage 1 or 2 by 2027, and is a priority in the directorate's business planning and the ICHT's organisational strategic cancer priorities. The RDC will aim to support already established pathways by aiming to exclude a cancer diagnosis within 28 days in patients presenting with non-specific symptoms which require a more holistic diagnostic approach. The onus of the service will be to confirm/exclude a cancer diagnosis as soon as practicable and ideally within 28 days. The project's aim is to establish a vague symptoms clinic for all primary care patients with non-specific signs or symptoms which may suggest cancer but that do not fit a traditional 2WW tumour-specific pathway.

The post holder(s) will be experienced nurses, acting within their professional boundaries with work experience in an oncology capacity; they will provide care for the presenting patient, demonstrating safe clinical decision-making. They will work collaboratively with the RDC team, cancer services and primary care.

The expected benefits are patients being diagnosed faster and improving performance against the faster diagnosis standard (another strategic priority), providing more tailored patient care and providing clearer onward referral routes for patients with cancer or other serious conditions identified through the clinic.

Whilst both posts are for 1 year Fixed Term initially, there is scope for the roles to become substantive positions after this, subject to funding and the pilot period.
