The Role:


Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist who would like to be part of a mental health team, providing better lives for the service users, working for one of the UK’s most respected NHS Mental Health Foundation Trusts?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to enable you to gain skills and experience working with patients with a range of physical and mental health conditions.


The successful applicant will be joining a small supportive team of Speech and Language Therapists who work across different areas within the Trust. You will provide support for speech, language and communication needs, as well as dysphagia, to service users with a range of mental health needs. 

We have regular team meetings, CPD opportunities and dedication to developing our service and patient care. We are also focused on staff well-being and regular clinical and managerial supervision are offered to all staff.


The postholder will be supported by experienced Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapists. We look forward to a motivated Speech and Language Therapist joining our established and friendly team.

The post holder will work flexibly across a range of services providing input into both district and specialist mental health services using evidence based and person-centred principles, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment.


The post holder will provide SLT assessment, advice and intervention for those whose communication impairments are as a primary result of organic or functional diagnosis, and where difficulties are having a direct impact upon current health and well-being and functional ability. They will provide dysphagia assessment, advice, and intervention in order to stabilise and/or reduce associated clinical risks on oral intake, make recommendations regarding environment, positioning, dysphagia techniques and/or texture modification of diet and fluids.


The post holder will be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their professional and clinical work, working to agreed local, national, and professional standards.


Working Monday-Friday, 9-5


Pay Rates


Days - £21.54, Nights & Saturdays - £28.00, Sundays & Bank Holidays - £34.47

To apply for this post, you will hold:

  • RCSLT accredited degree or equivalent certificate to practice as a speech and language therapist (SLT)
  • HCPC registration
  • Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Post basic training in dysphagia
  • Experience of assessing and managing patients with complex communication and swallowing difficulties
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of working with relatives and carers.




  • Advanced dysphagia qualification
  • Member of relevant CEN
  • Current driver’s licence and access to transport.
