We’re recruiting a Research/ Academic GP to work within our Solent GP Surgery. Working a total of 4 sessions a week, 3 sessions would be allocated to general practice work, with a fourth session being dedicated solely to carrying out research activities and growing the primary care research portfolio.

This is a new and unique role, working directly with the Trust’s award-winning Research and Improvement Academy to lead and facilitate improvement through innovation, learning and evidence based care across our communities.

Who Are We?

Solent NHS trust has been working with General Practice since 2010. We have said goodbye to the traditional model of general practice and instead consist of a GP Clinical Lead and clinical ‘champions’ for specific domains as opposed to a partnership model.

Based mainly between the Royal South Hants (based within central Southampton) and the Adelaide Health Centre (in Millbrook) we strive to work together, as one team to deliver great care for our patients.

We hold an APMS contract and have a patient list of approximately 20,000 patients. We use the SystmOne clinical system and benefit from being part of a community and mental health trust to support further integration of services within Southampton City.


We have:

- A growing GP clinical team

- Experienced ANPs working alongside the duty team providing a mixture of same day triage and routine care

- A great team of Practice nurses and HCAs supporting the team- providing health checks, chronic disease management and targeted clinics.

- Knowledgeable Clinical Pharmacists in addition to the PCN resource

- Weekly access to first contact physiotherapy (FCP)

- In-house proactive care team providing in-reach to frail /housebound patients
