SHOT (Serious Hazards of Transfusion) Incidents Specialist

SHOT is the UK‘s independent professionally led haemovigilance organisation which collects adverse incident reports relating to transfusion from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. SHOT works closely with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the Competent Authority (CA) for implementation of the UK Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005.

This is a unique opportunity for you to play your part in the ongoing success of this internationally renowned organisation. You will influence transfusion practices- to achieve this you will have considerable experience in an acute hospital setting of blood transfusion practice, with a good current knowledge of scientific and clinical practice and the impact of adverse incident analysis.

The SHOT Incident Specialist will work under the direction of the SHOT Operations Manager on the detailed analysis, interpretation and reporting of SHOT data. The primary role of the Incident Specialist will be to produce reports, presentations, manuscripts, surveys and studies on behalf of SHOT for the annual report, peer reviewed journals, symposia and for other publications and presentations as required. Relevant transfusion experience in an acute hospital, community or public health setting, preferably covering laboratory and clinical transfusion will be required for this post.

SHOT is the UK haemovigilance scheme and as such you will be expected to undertake travel nationally to engage with our colleagues and work collaboratively with the devolved nations.

Although the post is Manchester based, due to the pandemic the team have been working remotely, applications are invited from all around the UK.

Commencement of this post will be January 2022, with the 4 January being the most likely start date.

This vacancy is on a fixed term/ secondment basis. Secondments will be considered for NHSBT staff wishing to apply for this role.
