With our partners, Imperial College London, and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, we form Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre, one of 6 academic health science centres in the UK, working to ensure the rapid translation of research for better patient care and excellence in education.

We are proud of our heritage in innovation and we are early adopters of new insights in technologies, techniques and treatments for improving health.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a band 7 Senior Charge Nurse within Imperial Critical Care at the St Mary’s site. We are a fast paced unit specialising in Major Trauma, Neurosurgery and Vascular surgery. The position will allow the successful candidate to join our existing established and highly motivated team of experienced Critical Care nurses to lead our services.

We are looking for candidates who are enthusiastic about implementing change and can motivate and generate ideas. As a Senior Charge Nurse you will be instrumental in the day to day running of the unit. You will also lead a team to manage service improvement projects to raise standards of patient care. You will assist our team of Clinical Educators to provide training and education in your areas of expertise. You will also work closely with our existing team of committed and motivated Critical Care staff.

Critical Care at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is provided across three Intensive Care Units at three hospital sites in West London (Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St Mary's Hospital). We cover a variety of specialities including Major Trauma, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology, Hepatobilliary, Haematology, Cancer and Renal. However, as the service is provided in three separate units this enables us to maintain excellent team dynamics whilst benefiting from the shared learning of working in a collective Critical Care department totalling over 70 beds.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is one of the largest acute trusts in the country and in partnership with Imperial College London was one of the UK's first academic health science centres (AHSCs). The creation of the AHSC is a major advance for patient care, clinical teaching and scientific invention and innovation.

This post requires motivation, enthusiasm, excellent communication skills and demonstration of people management skills. You should also have extensive experience in Critical Care at Band 6, successful completion of a recognised Critical Care Course, and be a qualified mentor.
