Newham Hospital is part of Barts Health NHS Trust – a Group of Hospitals in North East London. Newham Hospital provides all the services expected of a general hospital including emergency care, surgery, children’s health, women’s health, maternity services, specialist medicine, long-term care and diagnostics. Serving one of the most diverse and deprived communities in the country the hospital has the largest maternity service within the Trust as well as general paediatric and medical services that attract clinicians based upon the variety and complexity of presentations seen each day.

Already hosting the Trust’s Orthopaedic Centre, the Hospital is being established as the ambulatory surgical centre for Barts Health and will become the centre for women’s health. The Hospital is part way through a significant programme of investment in its facilities which is already yielding benefit to patients and staff.

Following the departure of the current Director of Nursing and Governance to take on a Chief Nurse role, the Hospital CEO is looking to appoint to this important position within the Hospital Executive Board.

Supported by the Group Chief Nursing Officer, this role will provide leadership for the nursing, midwifery and AHP professions on the Newham site and, jointly with the Medical Director, ensure that quality governance and clinical standards are of the highest standard.

The post holder will play a key role in shaping and implementing the Trust’s clinical, professional and quality strategies as a senior clinical executive within the Barts Health Group.

As a member of the Executive Board the post holder will have shared responsibility for leading the operational delivery of the Hospital as well as its four strategic priorities of:

  • Equity and quality
  • Diversity, inclusion and wellbeing
  • Embedded in the community
  • Operational excellence

We are seeking an exceptional senior nursing leader who thrives on spending time with clinical teams as well as contributing to the strategy of the Hospital and the Trust. This would particularly suit an aspirant Chief Nurse who would benefit from the professional support of the Group Chief Nursing Officer.
