Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at the North Devon District Hospital, where you will be expected to work independently. This is a 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) post based at North Devon District Hospital. The successful candidate will work with a well-established team providing oncoplastic breast services on the North Devon site, with network arrangements in place with the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The Trust provides a wide range of district hospital, community health and social care services to over 160,000 residents across North Devon and to thousands of visitors the region receives every summer.

Located in the South West of England, North Devon is recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty. It extends from the edge of Exmoor in the east to Lundy Island in the west and the Taw Valley in the south providing contrasts of moor land, downs, valleys, rugged cliffs and award winning sandy beaches, thus catering for a wide range of interests and outdoor activities.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with licence to practise.

For an informal discussion, prospective candidates are welcome to contact either Mrs Anna Conway (Lead for Breast) 01271 322577 or Emily Rossiter, Interim Group Manager on 01271 311786.

This post is being offered as Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust continue to develop our long standing partnership with a view to becoming a single integrated organisation across Eastern and Northern Devon. Working together gives us the opportunity to offer unique and varied careers across our services combining the RD&E’s track record of excellence in research, teaching and links to the university with NDHT’s innovation and adaptability.

Whilst the post holder is formally being appointed to a role within the base hospital of Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, over time there may be a need to provide some clinical activity in the partner hospital site to ensure service continuity and equity of access to appropriate services.

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
