For more than fifty years, the United Kingdom has made great progress and developed world-leading expertise in organ donation and transplantation medicine and surgery- giving hope to everyone in need of a transplant that their life may be saved or improved.

Research and development in organ donation and transplantation, across the UK, is critical to delivering long‑term improvements. The research carried out today will provide the evidence base for future clinical practice.

 

This new role within the OTDT Clinical team provides a unique opportunity to provide clinical leadership in organ donation and transplantation Research and Development (R&D) at a UK level.

 

The post holder will collaboratively work with colleagues to provide oversight of, and clinical advice and input into, organ donation and transplantation research and development on behalf of NHSBT. This will include acting as the NHSBT lead in the NIHR Blood and Transplant Research Unit and being integral to the delivery of relevant actions within the strategy Organ Donation and Transplantation 2030: Meeting the Need. This ten-year vision for organ donation and transplantation in the United Kingdom includes the following research and innovation priorities:

 

  • Organ assessment and recovery
  • Long-term patient outcomes
  • Behavioural research
  • Infrastructure support
  • Enhanced data sharing and linkage

 

The agreed hours for this role are 2 PA’s/week, on a fixed term basis for 3 years.

This is a national vacancy and the location is to be agreed with the successful applicant.
