You will be working within a passionate and enthusiastic Nurse- Led Continence, Urology & Colorectal Service. The team is made up of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Senior Nurses, Staff Nurses and Assistant Practitioners.
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, your main responsibilities will be:
• Leading on catheters and catheterisation both within the Service and across Leeds Community Healthcare. A firm grasp of the principles of asepsis is essential. You will need to have extensive experience in relation to the use of urinary catheters and the ability to encourage and facilitate colleagues to provide excellent care in order to prevent the development of problems and promote the highest standard of self-care by patients.
• You will need a sound understanding of continence: bladder and bowel diagnosis/treatment management (including containment products).
• You will have a passion for promoting independence and excellence in self-care management with patients/their carers.
• You will undertake assessments / support for patients either in their home or in Leeds Community Healthcare clinic settings .
• You will need to have experience of managing a caseload.
• You will provide specialist clinical advice and support to the Neighbourhood Teams to enable them to deliver excellent catheter and continence care to their patients.
• You will contribute towards on-going support, advice and learning opportunities within the field of continence, to the rest of the team and staff within Leeds Community Healthcare.
• You will be expected to develop and deliver training programmes across the Trust and provide one to one educational opportunities for colleagues.
• You will also have the ability and confidence to work autonomously and often alone and adhere to the safe long worker policy, to problem solve whilst “thinking on your feet”, work under pressure. You will also have excellent analytical, interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Ideally you will have experience of Policy and guidance development and education and standards.
• Knowledge of relevant National Guidelines is required.
• Good networking skills as you will be representing the Service and Trust at multi-disciplinary team meetings and local and national forums.
• You will be required to travel in and around the city so you must be a confident driver.

You must be a qualified registered practitioner with the NMC, with considerable experience and understanding of bladder and bowel problems, be interested and enthusiastic to make a difference to peoples’ lives; have a full driving licence and be a confident city driver. The successful applicant must be able to undertake comprehensive assessments in order to formulate treatment plans developed in conjunction with the patient/carers/supporters. You must demonstrate motivational skills and encourage and support patients undergoing treatment programmes and self-care; be flexible to meet service needs and willing to study to gain the requisite knowledge and skills to improve patients’ lives.

There is a statutory requirement for staff in this role to provide nursing or personal care within Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated care homes.

Therefore, in line with new government regulations which come into force on 11 November 2021, anyone employed in this role will need to evidence they have had two doses of a Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) approved COVID-19 vaccine, or that they come within a specified exemption. Evidence of vaccination status should be provided via the NHS app, the NHS COVID pass via the NHS website, or an NHS letter as part of pre employment checks.
