An exciting opportunity has arisen to work across the Hampshire and Isle of Wight integrated care system for a clinical psychologist to support Young adults diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. This entirely new role will be required to work with the diabetes teams across, secondary, community and primary care in Portsmouth, Southampton and Isle of Wight to deliver specialist psychological support to young adults diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (18-25) who have recently transitioned from paediatric care.

The new role will allow the role to embed psychological care as an integral part of the young adults’ diabetic service; ensuring that the individual’s complex psychological needs, associated with their diabetes diagnosis, medical procedures and diabetes management, are met by specialist and skilled clinical psychologies who have sound knowledge and understanding of the uniqueness of living with Type 1 diabetes. This role will work across Hampshire and Isle of Wight to ensure a smooth transition for young people who have received support from paediatric psychology services and will risk stratify young people to the most appropriate level of support.

The post holder will be required to undertake clinical work across the Hampshire and Isle of Wight system working directly and indirectly with patients, families and staff members. Post holders will be embedded into local the Solent team.

The Clinical Psychologist will also provide training, supervision, consultancy and advice to multidisciplinary colleagues on psychological aspects of diabetes management and contribute to service evaluation and planning.

The post is fixed term for 1 year and full-time (37.5 hours).
