Are you passionate about the provision of play for children in the acute hospital setting? If so this could be the post for you.

Due to ongoing development of the current play team, we are seeking a forward thinking and dynamic individual to join our Children’s Team on Willow Ward and Paediatric Assessment Unit, to lead in the provision of play for children. This role will also provide some support to Radiology and Paediatric ED in terms of providing input for children and young people.

This can be a full time or part time post and along with the play team you will be expected to co-ordinate all play and distraction activities within the ward and assessment unit setting. We have two part time Hospital Play Specialists in post and a Play Assistant. You will be expected to provide seven day Hospital Play Specialist cover and expertise together with the other members of the play team currently in post.

Willow Ward has 22 beds and is a general paediatric ward caring for children and young people with a variety of conditions aged 0 – 16 years. Willow has a well established team of nurses, health care assistants, admin and clerical staff and paediatric doctors who you will work with on a daily basis. The Paediatric Assessment Unit is attached to the Paediatric Emergency Department and has a waiting area, assessment area and 6 cubicles. Radiology is co-located with the ED department.

This role will include visiting other areas within the hospital where children are nursed to provide play support as required (SCBU, Outpatients, Paediatric ED).

In order to apply for this post you must have the Hospital Play Specialist Certificate or level 4 Diploma in Specialised Play for Sick Children and Young People, or be about to complete the course. Previous experience of working with children in a hospital setting is essential. We have close links with the University of Greenwich and continuing professional development is positively encouraged.
