2. OVERVIEW AND JOB PURPOSE

 

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, clinically astute and motivated Registered Nurse to become involved in and support a portfolio of clinical research projects.

 

We specialise in experimental medicine and Early Phase clinical research and cover many areas including diabetes, vascular health, cardiovascular disease, dementia, respiratory conditions and addictive behaviours.

 

The post holder will play a key part in the provision of care and management of patients participating in clinical studies.The successful candidate will demonstrate a broad range of experience and skills that can be transferred to variety of clinical research settings. General experience and a flexible ‘can do’ approach and attention to detail is essential.

 

It is essential to have an interest in research and an understanding of the part research plays in evidence based practice.An understanding and awareness of general clinical research including early phase studies and the regulatory issues in its conduct is desirable although a full and thorough training and induction package will be provided. The post holder will work closely with and be assigned to a band 6 Senior Research Nurse.

The post holder will have the opportunity and be expected to demonstrate initiative and flexibility.He/she will be able to develop their skills as a proactive team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and organisational abilities.Applicants should be able to express their enthusiasm and commitment to the role and will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to organise, prioritise and adjust their workload in relation to the requirements of multiple studies.

 

The post holder will be expected to recruit to and support the Exeter Ten Thousand (EXTEND) research cohort and the NIHR Bio Resource.He/she will also clinically support a number of other research studies in the facility.

 

Applicants should be able/willing to perform venepuncture, cannulation and Immediate Life Support (ILS).

 

Although the post holder willmostlywork Mon-Fri - social hours (starting at 8am), there is an expectation that staff will participate in the on-call rota for emergency un-blinding of studies and will actively participate in other studies that may need out of hours assistance.

 

The Clinical Research Facility team actively encourage potential applicants to come to the CRF for an informal visit and discussion about the role. This will give a better insight into the work of the CRF and the role that is being appointed to.
