A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full time Clinical Lead Nurse on Ward 36 NCCC day unit on a 12 month secondment/fixed term basis with the potential for this to be extended due to the secondment of the current post holder.

The role of Clinical Lead Nurse is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to work clinically within the team, teaching and support clinical development of the nursing workforce. The role includes regular teaching and delivery of educational sessions within the ward and also trust wide in delivery teaching on systemic anti-cancer treatments. Additionally the role is currently evolving to develop extended clinical skills such as nurse led bone marrow biopsy clinics with the opportunity to further develop the role to explore other nurse led services within cancer services.

The successful candidate will have clinical experience in the haematology/oncology setting. It is essential you hold a recognised qualification in SACT administration and have completed the Practice Assessor accreditation as teaching and supporting junior staff and students is an essential part of the role. You will also need to be highly motivated and able to demonstrate excellent clinical and interpersonal skills. Close multi-disciplinary working is required, excellent communication, organisational, clinical and teaching skills are essential.

Our working hours are currently 08:00-19:00 and we are in the process of expanding our services to include weekend working, therefore the successful candidate would be expected to work as part of a shift pattern that encompasses 7 day working with regular nurse in charge responsibilities. The shift pattern is x2 08:00-19:00 and x2 08:00-17:00 shifts per week.

Ward 36 provides treatment for patients who require SACT for haematological and oncological malignancies. As the regional centre we take patients from both the North East and Cumbria regions for specialist complex chemotherapy regimens which may not be available to them locally. We also provide a satellite clinic at Cramlington, which there is an expectation for all staff to travel to on a regular basis and as a Clinical Lead Nurse would be expected to work autonomously as the nurse in charge of this unit.
