Macmillan Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist - Acute Oncology

Job Reference: 241-693JM-21-A

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust
Cancer Services
Royal Bolton Hospital, Farnworth, Bolton
£32,306 - £39,027 per annum pro rata

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust was formed in 2008 and, in 2011, we became an integrated provider with community health services joining the trust. Covering a catchment area that also incorporates parts of Bury, Wigan and Salford, we deliver hospital and community based services from the Royal Bolton Hospital in Farnworth and from 20 health centres across Bolton, to a catchment population of 320,000 people. We have a CQC rating as good overall and we have some key areas of outstanding practice with an outstanding rating for being well led at every level.

Buildings, names and models of care have changed over the centuries, but one thing has remained constant and is prevalent among our 5,900+ staff members: the enduring commitment to providing the best health and care for the people of Bolton.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic oncology nurse, who aspires to deliver excellent cancer care, to join our passionate, well respected and progressive Macmillan Acute Oncology service for a period of six months. Our service promotes better recognition and prompt, appropriate management of acute problems related to either a suspected or confirmed cancer diagnosis or the cancer treatment itself, seven days a week. Team members work with complex patients who present acutely to our service.

The Macmillan Acute Oncology Associate CNS will work very closely with all staff involved in the care of cancer patients; in particular, Oncologists, staff within the Acute Medical Assessment Unit and AED, in addition to the Cancer & Specialist Palliative Care MDT members. The team liaise closely with both tertiary and primary care partners.

The extremely motivated post holder will require highly developed interpersonal and communication skills. They must be able to demonstrate the ability to influence others in the provision of high standards of acute oncology care for all patients and their families.

The post holder will be innovative and participate in improving service development through audit and peer review measures. In return for your commitment the successful candidate will be offered professional support from both the trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.

You need to be a registered first level nurse with the NMC, have a relevant degree and be willing to undertake relevant educational courses. The role requires supporting the teaching of the multi-professional teams.

If you are a dynamic individual with effective communication skills, an ability to motivate and influence others, work independently and as part of a specialist team, along with having a specific interest in cancer, this could be the role for you. This is an ideal opportunity to cover maternity leave and for you to consider a secondment. If you are looking to do this, please agree with your manager prior to applying.

An informal visit to the Macmillan Acute Oncology team is highly encouraged.
